I’m Kate Weinberg, a birth doula working toward certification with Carriage House Birth, where I completed my Foundation Birth Doula training in Brooklyn, NY in 2017, and additional training in Los Angeles in 2019. I’m also a creative writer with an MFA in fiction, a visual artist, herbalist, comprehensive sex-positive sex-educator, and performer, with a long-time passion for women’s health, wellness, and reproductive justice.

As a doula, I support birthing people, and your partners or families, as you navigate the many choices inherent in preparing for birth, and for the postpartum time. I don’t believe there’s one “right” or “best” way to give birth. While I believe fully in a birthing person’s ability to achieve low-intervention, physiologic birth—if that’s what they want—I also believe that all ways of moving through labor and giving birth are natural and valid. My job is to hold space for whatever comes up for you, help you tap into your own inherent wisdom and strength, and, in doing so, envision and achieve the kind of birth you desire, whatever that may be.

During labor and birth, I will be there to provide continuous emotional and physical support for any kind of birth (including unmedicated, medicated, C-birth), in all kinds of places (including hospital, birth center, and home.) However, as we navigate the wilds of the COVID-19 pandemic, I aim to be a system of support in whatever way best serves you and your familythis might mean a combination of virtual and in-person support, at least for the moment. We’ll figure out, together, what that means for you in terms of the support you need right now, and how i’ll be able to provide it. Because the situation is so in flux, how we decide to work together might change, too. Flexibility and communication, baby! (I will be fully vaccinated, including the 2-week post-vaccine waiting period, by April 7th, 2021)

While I do believe doulas (and other care workers) should be fairly compensated for the incredibly important/hard work they do, I don’t believe doulas should be a luxury service, reserved only for those with plenty of disposable income. As such—and especially during these wild/weird/crazy/batshit/unsettling/financially uncertain times—I offer my services on a sliding scale, or a trade/barter basis, depending on what’s appropriate for you and your family at the moment. I trust that you will be honest in determining where you fall on that sliding scale/barter system. No questions asked.
